UK 100 called to open -25 points this morning at 6267. In focus today will be to see if the UK 100 can break through 2 month resistance around the 6300 level, it tested this level once again yesterday. During trading yesterday the Dow Jones added another 200 points, to continue a now 4 day winning streak, markets edged higher as investors digested and took promise in the hopes of Moderna's Covid-19 vaccine, which has shown to neutralise antibodies, in all 45 patients in its early stage human trial. The S&P also gained, closing the day 0.9% higher at 3,226 and the US green sweep was completed by the Nasdaq closing 0.5% higher closing at 10,550. In other new on Wednesday, earnings season continued and Goldman Sachs reported quarterly numbers that easily beat analyst expectations.
Anglo American has stuck to its FY20 guidance for metals, (including copper and diamonds) as it posted lower Q2 output due to coronavirus lockdowns. In Q2 output for diamonds, platinum, palladium, iron ore, coal and manganese declined, while copper and nickel rose.
Aviva confirms the compleion of the sale of Friends Provident International Ltd to RL360 Holding Company Limited for £259m.
Experian reported a smaller-than-expected fall in organic revenue for Q1, as strong performance by its North American business cushioned a hit from the coronavirus crisis. Revenue fell 2%, compared with average analyst forecasts of a 5-10% drop was expected.
GVC Holdings announce CEO Kenneth Alexander will retire from the board and be replaced by Shay Segev, GVC's COO. They see H1 EBITDA in the range of £340-350m.
RBS will be renamed as Natwest Group from Wednesday 22nd July 2020.
SSE continues to target delivery of its five-year dividend plan to 2022/23. Coronavirus impacts on operating profit for first three months of trading are in line with expectations. They intend to declare a 24.4p dividend in November 2020, for payment in March 2021.
