Markets Overview:

The UK 100 is called to open -12 points today at 7079.  A lower open is expected this morning on the UK blue-Chip index.  Continued concerns around global inflation weigh heavily on investor sentiment.  Stateside yesterday saw the Dow Jones finish the session up just 0.13% at 34,933 whilst the S&P 500 marked a 0.12% gain.  The Nasdaq Composite meanwhile dipped 0.22% to close at 14,644 and the small-cap focussed Russell 2000 fell 1.63% to 2,202.  In Asia this morning, the picture was mixed as data showed China’s GDP rose 7.9% year-on-year in the second quarter.  That was slightly lower than forecasts by analysts in a Reuters poll for an 8.1% rise.  The Shanghai Composite in China gained 0.45% and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index surged 1.13%, in Japan, the Nikkei 225 slumped 1.17%.
