Markets Overview:

 

The UK 100 is called to open -10 points today at 7521.  A slightly lower open is expected this morning after shedding 120 points on Monday, the 2nd biggest one day fall of 2022.  Overnight on Wall Street, the Dow Jones declined 0.49%, and the S&P dropped 0.38%, the Russell 2000 dipped 0.46% and the tech-filled Nasdaq remained unchanged.  Asian markets were mostly lower on Tuesday as Japan’s economy expanded 5.4% on an annualised basis in the final quarter of 2021.  Japan’s Nikkei 225 fell 0.79% and South Korea’s Kospi slumped 1.03%.  The Shanghai composite in China gained 0.34% while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index dipped 1.13%.

BHP Group posts HY underlying attributable profit of $10.69bn. They state cost headwinds due to supply bottlenecks to remain challenging in 2022.

Ferrexpo confirms acting CEO Jim North as permanent CEO, effective immediately.

 

 

Glencore reports a FY pretax profit of $7.38bn v loss of $5.12bn the year before, with $4bn of shareholder returns. They have taken a $1.5bn provision for UK, US and Brazilian investigations.

 

 

Metro Bank CFO David Arden will step down on April 1st.

 

 

Plus 500 report that their FY21 pretax profit fell to $386.4m from $523.3m a year ago.
