Markets Overview:

UK 100 called to open flat this morning at 7505. A muted open on the back of the lowest Chinese GDP reading since 2009.  This does raise the question could we see further stimulus in the market? Yet another record close on friday Stateside, the Dow pushing higher still after breaking through 27000 for the first time last week. Oil prices remained stable, hovering around the $67 per barrel.  Gold maintained a solid level above $1400, currently $1414.

 

In corporate news this morning:

 

Miners flat in Australia overnight after China GDP meet estimates even if Industrial Production and Retail Sales beat.

 

AstraZeneca says FDA issued a complete response letter on supplemental new drug application for Farxiga as an add-on treatment to insulin. Will work with FDA on next steps.

GlaxoSmithKline has announced Jonathan Symonds has been picked to succeed Sir Philip Hampton as chairman. Also, Phase 3 study of Zejula met trial objectives  against ovarian cancer.

UK Index retailers may be affected by BRC footfall data showing footfall on the high street -4.5% last month, compared to +0.1% at the same time last year.

Antofagasta JV awarded $5.84B in damages in connection to arbitration claims against Pakistan for TCC joint venture in partnership with Barrick Gold.

Sports Direct warns on missing guidance; postpones FY 2019 results. To delist GAME Digital after acquiring 84%.

Smith & Nephew target price increased by Credit Suisse to 1645p from 1490p

Thomas Cook target price decreased by HSBC to 5p from 34p.
