Markets Overview:

The UK 100 is called to open -17 points today at 7366.  A marginally lower open is expected this morning for the UK’s blue chip index having struck fresh 20 month highs yesterday and having 7400 in its sights.  It was a mixed picture in the US yesterday, the Dow Jones dived 159 points to close at 35,921 but the S&P 500 put on 3 points at 4,649.  Asian markets were buoyant this morning with Japan’s Nikkei up 340 points at 29,618 and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng 54 points to the good at 25,302.

Company News:

AstraZeneca posted $1.05bn in COVID-19 vaccine sales for Q3 and the not-for-profit vaccine added one cent to profit in the period, while the company reiterated its forecasts for 2021. Q3 YTD total revenue excluding COVID vaccine was up 21% YoY to $23.19bn and they expect 2021 revenue (including vaccine) to grow by mid-to-high percentage. They also expect core EPS to be between $5.05-5.40.
John Wood expects FY revenue at $6.4bn and EBITDA margin at 8.5-8.7%.
 
Land Securities are to sell Harbour Exchange property in London for £196.5m.
Redrow says trading in the new financial year has remained strong as they expect FY22 results to approach those achieved in 2019.
