Markets Overview:

The UK 100 is called to open up 12 points today at 7199. Asian shares once again failed to follow the lead from European and US markets, and fell for a consecutive day, as fears of the spread of the Delta variant of the coronavirus weighed on investor sentiment. This was despite better inflation figures from the US which all but erased fears the Fed would rush to reduce its support for the economy and also buoyed the Dow to new record levels again. Oil largely held onto its weekly gains with Brent flat at $71.43 per barrel and US Crude slightly down 0.03% at $69.23. Gold also held onto gains overnight. The easing of fears about increasing interest rates would help the non-interest bearing asset.

Company News & Broker Comments:

Company News:

Aviva is to return £4bn to investors as its profit rises 17% in the first half to £725m. An immediate £750m share buyback has also been announced. Aviva has raised £7.5bn by selling 8 by businesses across the world since the appointment of Amanda Blanc as CEO in July 2020.
Tui Travel said a jump in summer bookings had helped to turn it cash flow positive for the first time since the pandemic started. The Co. cut its summer capacity to 60% however, down from 75% it had planned in May, showing "normal travel" is far from resuming yet.
Cineworld said it was considering a listing of itself or a partial listing of its movie chain Regal in the US to access more liquidity and help future growth. The majority of Cineworld's revenue come from the US since its purchase of Regal in 2018.
Entain, owner of Ladbrokes reported first half profits up 12%, helped by the Euros and strong online demand. The Co. has said that the Euros were its biggest ever sporting event. Dividends remained suspended, but they launched a new cost-saving programme to help it invest in its platforms and drive expansion and expects to save £100m in 2023.
