Markets Overview:

 

UK 100 called to open +10 points this morning at 6609.  Calls for a fairly flat open come as traders wait nervously on weekend Brexit talks, and Boris Johnson tells the British public, the prepare for a no deal Brexit. Stateside yesterday markets eased with the Dow Jones down 70 points at 29,999 and the S&P 500 off 5 points at 3,668, after US weekly jobless claims rose to 853,000, which was well above the consensus forecast of 725,000.  In Asia this morning the Nikkei 225 in Tokyo and the Hang Seng in Hong Kong have gone their separate ways; the former is down 86 points at 26,624 and the latter is 106 points heavier at 26,516.

Company News:

Bellway have forecast a 25% rise in annual home volumes on solid order book boosted by the temporary stamp duty holiday. Its forward order book rose 18.7% to £1.77bn.

 

GSK have announced that their experimental COVID-19 vaccine with Sanofi showed an insufficient immune response in clinical test trials.

 

Rolls Royce have stuck to its guidance to turn cash flow positive during H2 2021, and said it was on track to deliver its cost-saving targets. Engine flying hours were down 42% as COVID-19 choked airline flying and warned that more recently the pace of recovery had slowed due to an uptick in infection rates.

 

UK Banks can resume paying some dividends and bonuses after the Bank of England said they appeared well capitalised and resilient to any further coronavirus crisis fall-out.
