Markets Overview:

 

 

The UK 100 is called to open -31 points today at 7290. The UK's bluechip index looks set to open moderately lower, with traders waiting on this afternoon’s US inflation report.  US markets retreated yesterday despite the  Dow Jones not moving much during the session. The broader-based S&P gave back 34 points to close at 4,667 while the tech-heavy Nasdaq tumbled 270 points to end the day at 15,517.  Asian markets were lower on Friday as Chinese property giant Evergrande was officially labelled a defaulter for the first time.  China’s Shanghai Composite slipped 0.36% and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng was 0.79% weaker.  The Nikkei in Japan slumped 1% while South Korea’s Kospi dipped 0.59%.

Company News:

Anglo American expects their 2021 production to increase by 7% on strong PGM performance and their 2022 capex to be between $6.2-6.7bn. They have confirmed 2021 guidance and value accretive 35% growth in the next decade.
 
Associated British Foods expects Primark sales to be significantly better than prior year as they expect FY and HY profit to be above last year comparatives. They do state that the cost of energy, logistics and commodities are rising.
Photo-Me expects FY pretax profit to be at the upper end of forecasts at £25-30m.
