Markets Overview:

 

UK 100 called to open +50 points this morning at 5711.   Calls for a strong open on the morning of the US election come on the back of Asian markets all ending strongly in the green overnight, led higher by the Hang Seng being up 2.4%, and the Nikkei, up 1.4%, while Australian stocks also rallied as the central bank there cut interest rates to 0.1%.  Overnight, Wall Street saw investors put any of its nerves to one side and closed higher, with the Dow Jones jumping 423 points or 1.6% to just above 26,925. The S&P rose 1.2% and the tech heavy Nasdaq was the most subdued, up 0.4% as many of the tech heavyweights were in the red.

 

 

Company News:

Crest Nicholson has forecast annual earnings to be ahead of market expectations and reinstated their dividend due to strong recovery in the housing market but warned of fresh challenges in the face of the new coronavirus lockdown.

DS Smith update that their overall financial performance remains unchanged. Profits for HY20 will be lower than the same period in 2019, due to COVID, but they have seen a significant improvement in Q2 compared to Q1. They still intend to declare a dividend for HY 2020, as previously announced.

G4S has rejected a takeover proposal from U.S. rival Allied Universal Security Services.

Senior Plc reports that its revenue is unlikely to recover before 2022 as they grapple with setbacks to jet production and global travel demand during the COVID-19 pandemic. They posted a 45% drop in Q3 sales at the aerospace unit and said it would close its Senior Aerospace Bosman business in the Netherlands as it looks to cut rising costs.

Weir Group report that Q3 minerals orders were down 5%, whilst revenues remained stable.
