Markets Overview: (Source: Bloomberg, FT, Reuters, DJ Newswires)

UK 100 called to open -12pts, as an unexpected decline in US manufacturing spooked global markets. Expected figures were 52.1 which would have been growth on last month when in fact figures came in at 49.5, going back into retraction.

Asian markets followed US equities into the red on the back of a shock miss in ISM manufacturing data. The data, along with the employment component were at their worst levels since 2009 and not the information the markets would have wanted to see ahead of Friday's non-farm payrolls. Let's hope for more encouraging indicators from tomorrow's ADP employment figure (13:15) and US factory orders (15:00).

Continued political impasse in Washington also weighed on sentiment as the Republicans put forward their counteroffer to the White House's fiscal plan which was quickly rebuffed by the Democrats.

Overnight the main news was that, as expected, the RBA, cut interest rates by 25 BPS with the Aussie Dollar actually rallying as some had been looking for a larger cut given that the Reserve Bank doesn't meet again until February.

In Europe the EU Finance Ministers meeting ended with little to report other than they will reconvene on December 13th to give the final decision in Greek aid.
