The UK 100 called to open +4 points at 8,663. The UK 100 looks set to open broadly flat today stabilising after a sharp decline in the US on Friday after new US data sparked concern among investors over a slowing economy and sticky inflation, leading them in search of safer assets.
On Friday the Dow Jones lost 748.63 points, or 1.69%, to close at 43,428.02. Friday's decline, its worst in the young year, brought its two-day losses to roughly 1,200 points. The S&P slid 1.71% to end at 6,013.13, marking a second negative session after the index closed at a record on Wednesday. The Nasdaq dropped 2.2%, settling at 19,524.01.
In Asia this morning, leading benchmarks including the Hang Seng index and Nikkei 225 have recovered from their earlier weakness to stand near to their opening marks.
B&M European Value Retail S.A. announced that its Group Chief Executive, Alex Russo, will retire effective April 30, 2025, and the company is in the process of selecting a new CEO. Additionally, B&M has updated its FY25 profit guidance, expecting Group adjusted EBITDA to be between £605m and £625m, reflecting current trading conditions and economic uncertainties.
