The UK 100 called to open +26 points at 7497. The UK 100 is expected to make a positive start to trading on Friday after US blue-chips advanced following strong economic data raised hopes of a soft landing in the world’s largest economy. The Dow Jones and S&P made strong gains, whilst the tech heavy Nasdaq recovered from early losses to end the session close to flat. In Asia, markets were mixed. The Nikkei 225 index in Tokyo was down 0.3%. In China, the Shanghai Composite was up 0.9%, while the Hang Seng index in Hong Kong was up 0.2%. Data in the UK this morning showed the economy had eked out growth of 0.1% in the first quarter, according to figures from the Office for National Statistics.
