Markets Overview:

The UK 100 called to open -34 points at 7488.   The UK 100 looks set to open lower on Wednesday after Asian markets fell after weak manufacturing data in China.  In Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 fell 1.7%. In China, the Shanghai composite was down 0.7% while in Hong Kong the Hang Seng tumbled 2.5%.  Yesterday on Wall Street, the Dow Jones fell 50.56 points, or 0.2%, to end at 33,042.78. The S&P ended flat at 4,205.52 and the Nasdaq Composite gained 41.74 points or 0.3%, to trade at 13,017.43.

Company News:

B&M European Value Retail SA have forecast higher 2024 core earnings after reporting an annual profit in line with its expectations. They reported an adjusted core profit of £573m for the year ended March 25th, down 7.4% from last year. They had expected 2023 adjusted EBITDA of between £560-580m.

 

 

Bodycote notes “good start” to first four months of 2023, trading ahead of expectations but their FY guidance remains unchanged. They announce that their CEO Stephen Harris will retire next year.

 

 

Prudential promotes Ben Bulmer to group CFO replacing James Turner, who resigns over code of conduct probe.

 

 

WH Smith says business continues to perform strongly across all key travel markets.
