Markets Overview:

The UK 100 called to open +36 points at 7,745. UK 100 is called to open higher on Thursday, after a strong performance on Wall Street carried through to Asia, with investors encouraged by progress on debt ceiling discussions. The US closed higher with the Dow +1.2%, S&P +1.2% and Nasdaq +1.3%. In Asia the Nikkei closed +1.7%, Shanghai +0.6% and Hong Kong +0.9%.

Aston Martin has received a £234m investment from China’s Geely.

 

BT Group met market expectations with a 5% rise in FY adjusted core earnings of £7.9bn after growth in networks and consumer offset a decline in enterprise. They expect to grow both revenue and core earnings on a pro forma basis this year.

 

Burberry reported stronger-than-expected Q4 sales, boosted by a rebound in its largest market China following three years of COVID-19 restrictions. Quarterly comparable sales rose 16%, accelerating from the previous quarter and above a company compiled consensus of 14%.

 

EasyJet reported a H1 loss in line with its guidance and said that it was confident about the summer season, when it makes all its profit, citing strong bookings and operational resilience.

 

International Distributions says trading environment is uncertain for Royal Mail and GLS.

 

National Grid reports a FY23 pretax profit of £3.59bn, up from £3.44bn YoY as they increase their final dividend by 8.8% YoY to 55.44p.

 

Premier Foods posted stronger annual profit and raised its dividend payout by 20% as the company offset higher input costs with price hikes and cost-cutting measures initiated in the last quarter of the year. They reported a 13% jump in adjusted profit before tax for the year ended April 1st to £137.2m, above expectations of £135m.

 

Vistry expects an adjusted pretax profit for FY23 in excess of £450m.
