Markets Overview:

The UK 100 called to open -3 points at 7895.  The UK 100 looks set to edge lower in early exchanges following a disappointing showing in the US overnight after a mixed bag of earnings.  The Dow Jones closed Wednesday down 80 points or 0.2%, ending the session at 33,897, while the Nasdaq Composite added 4 points to trade at 12,157 and the S&P 500 was flat at 4,155.  In Asia this morning, markets were mixed. In Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 index was up 0.3%. In China, the Shanghai Composite was down 0.5%, while the Hang Seng index in Hong Kong was down 0.1%.

Babcock says their underlying profitability for FY23 is in line with expectations.

 

 

Centamin reports Q1 revenue of $205.2m.

 

 

Deliveroo report Q1 2023 revenue of £512m, up 7% from £479m YoY. Q1 2023 orders amount to £72.1m, down from £78.8m YoY. They expect their FY23 adjusted EBITDA to be in the range of £20-50m, weighted to H2.

 

 

Dunelm report Q3 FY23 total sales of £423m, up 6% from £399m YoY. They expect their FY23 pretax profit expectations to remain unchanged at £185m, with range of £171-198m.

 

 

Ferrexpo notes that the Supreme Court in Ukraine rules in favour of Ferrexpo on claim about subsidiary.

 

 

Haleon says their Q1 trading has been “strong” with organic revenue growth of 9.9%.

 

 

Jet2 now expects their FY23 group profit to be between £387-392m. They report total cash at March 31st of £2.6bn, with own cash balance of £1.12bn.

 

 

Rio Tinto reported a more than 15% jump in Q1 iron ore shipment, beating estimates, as it ramped up production at its Gudai-Darri mine in Western Australia. They shipped 82.5m tonnes of iron ore. A record for the quarter, up from 71.5m tonnes a year earlier. They did warn of “persistently high” inflation in the US and tightening of credit conditions from the potential banking crisis to weigh on economic activity across the board. They cut their forecast for mined copper to a range of 590,000-640,000 tonnes, from a range of 650,000-710,000 tonnes.

 

 

Senior expects “strong” FY growth in line with expectations.

 

 

WH Smith posted better-than-expected HY profit, helped by improved passenger numbers at airports and train stations. They reported a headline group profit before tax of £45m for the six months ended Feb 28th, compared with £14m a year earlier.
