The UK 100 called to open +30 points at 7905. UK 100 is set to start the new month higher after survey results pointed to a stronger-than-expected recovery in Chinese manufacturing activity. Wall street ended lower with the Dow -0.7%, S&P -0.3% and Nasdaq -0.1%. In Asia Shanghai closed +0.9% whilst the Hang Seng surged 3.9% as survey data showed that China’s factories returned to growth in February amid the loosening of pandemic restrictions.
Aston Martin report that their losses have swelled to £118m last year, hurt by higher costs and as supply-chain snarls forced the luxury carmaker to delay deliveries.
Persimmon warned of lower profit for 2023 and cut its annual dividend by 75%, after flagging a further slowdown in demand for new homes. Their underlying pretax profit rose 4% to 1.01bn in the year ended Dec 31st, above average analyst estimates of £983.4m.
Reckitt Benckiser marginally beat FY L-f-L net revenue expectations, helped by its nutrition and health businesses. They are targeting L-f-L net revenue growth of mid-single digits for 2023, excluding the lapping of about a 2.5% impact related to the USA supply disruption in infant formula.
Shell completes the sale of its 100% interest in Aera Energy to IKAV for around £2bn in cash.
Wier Group report a pretax profit of £260m, up 24% from £209m. They have raised their annual dividend by 28% to 32.8p, from 23.8p previously. They state that they’ve began 2023 with a “record order book” as they are growing faster than their markets, strengthening margins and cash.
