Markets Overview:

The UK 100 called to open +8 points at 7961.  The UK 100 looks set to open higher as CPI data this morning, showed that inflation had fallen by more than expected, thanks in main to drops in fuel prices.  The UK 100 set a new intraday high yesterday, falling 3 points shy of 8000 during the session.  On Wall Street, it was a mixed session on Tuesday, The Dow Jones slipped 156.66 points, or 0.46%, to close at 34,089.27. The S&P fell 0.03% to 4,136.13. The Nasdaq Composite recouped earlier losses to close 0.57% higher at 11,960.15, boosted by technology stocks including Tesla and Nvidia, which rose 7.51% and 5.43%, respectively.

Anglo American says CEO of 79% owned Anglo American Platinum, Viljoen will leave Anglo to join Newmont Corp as COO.

 

 

Barclays reported that their annual profit fell 15%, as costs from an administrative blunder saw it oversell securities in the USA compounded a mixed performance by its investment banking division. They reported a pretax profit for 2022 of £7bn, down from £8.2bn the year before and below the £7.2bn average analysts forecast.

 

 

Dunelm report a H1 FY23 pretax profit of £117.4m, down 17% YoY from £140.8m. They declare an interim dividend of 15p per share, up 7.1%. They report a strong performance in H1 and strong winter sale. They have kept FY23 profit expectations of £176m, with range of £131-188m. They state that the outlook remains unpredictable as consumers adapt to the new economic reality.

 

 

Glencore announced a payout of $7.1bn to its investors, including a new $1.5bn share buyback programme after the company posted a record 2022 trading profit thanks to strong oil and coal prices. Their trading division reported an adjusted operating profit of $6.4bn for 2022, up 73% from the previous year.

 

 

Hargreaves Lansdown reports a HY pretax profit of £197.6m up from £151.2m YoY. They have increased their HY dividend by 3.6% to 12.7p. They expect the current economic environment to impact consumer confidence.
