Markets Overview:

The UK 100 called to open +22 points at 7906. The UK 100 looks set to open higher, and push back towards its recently hit record highs, after US markets ended the day in positive territory after comments from Fed chair, Jerome Powell that inflation has begun to decline.  The Dow Jones closed yesterday’s session up 266 points or 0.8%, at 34,157, the Nasdaq jumped 226 points, or 1.9%, to 12,114 and the S&P improved by 53 points, or 1.3%, to close at 4,164.

Company News:

Ashmore reported a 54% drop in HY profit before tax as net outflows and subdued investor risk appetite hit its assets under management. They reported a profit before tax of £53.8m in the six month period ended Dec 31st, saw net outflows of $7.6bn in the reported period.

 

 

Barratt Developments have flagged persisting market uncertainty as high mortgage rates weigh on demand and a sharp fall in house prices dent margins. They reported a pretax profit for the six months ended Dec 31st of £501.5m (2022: £432.6m profit). They have cut their interim dividend to 10.2p, down from 11.2p YoY.

 

 

DCC says their Q3 operating profit is in line with expectations, ahead of prior year.

 

 

Severn Trent states there have been no material changes to the current year business performance or outlook as they announce the acquisition of Andigestion.

 

 

Smurfit Kappa says their FY22 pretax profit has grown 42% YoY to 1.29bn euros as their revenue climbs 27% to 12.82bn euros. As of Dec 31st they have a liquidity position of 2.44bn euros.

 

 

Tate & Lyle expects revenue growth of 4-6% and EBITDA growth of 7-9% annually over the next five years.
