Markets Overview:

The UK 100 called to open +25 points at 7657.  The UK 100 is expected to make further progress when trading opens on Friday ahead of EU inflation and US non-farm payrolls figures due later today.  On Wall Street yesterday, the Dow Jones was down 340 points, or 1.02%, at 32,930, the S&P fell 45 points, or 1.16%, to 3,808 and the Nasdaq dipped 154 points, or 1.47%, to 10,305, this came after a strong ADP jobs report and hawkish comments from Esther George, president and chief executive of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City, who told CNBC that she favoured holding rates above 5% for some time.

Clarkson says their results are anticipated to be ahead of current market expectations as their 2022 underlying pretax profit is expected to be at least £98m.

 

 

Essentra expects to deliver FY LFL revenue growth of 6.5% as they confirm their intention to return about £150m to shareholder in Q1. They are confident in their ability to pass through price increases to offset inflation.

 

 

Shell expects to pay about $2bn in additional taxes in Q4 of 2022 related to the European Union and British windfall taxes imposed on the energy sector. They also state that their LNG production in the quarter will be hit by prolonged outages at two major plants in Australia.
