The UK 100 is called to open -37 points this morning at 7107. The UK 100 looks set to open lower this morning following yesterdays Federal reserve interest rate increase of 0.75%, the rise was in-line with expectations however, US markets fell back sharply after Fed chair Jerome Powell signalled further hikes were on the way: "We have a ways to go," before rate hikes could be paused. The Dow closed Wednesday down 505 points, 1.6%, at 32,148, the Nasdaq slipped 366, 3.4%, to 10,525 and the S&P lost 97 points, 2.5%, to 3,760. Focus will now shift to the Bank of England who will announce its interest rate decision at noon with expectations of a 75bp increase to match the Fed although some analysts suggest the recent poor economic data may prompt a lower increase.
BT Group have increased their savings target by £500m to help fund the rising cost of building its fibre network as it met forecasts in H1. They reported a revenue of £10.4bn (+1% due to growth in its consumer and Openreach units) with core earnings of £3.9bn, +3% in H1.
Hikma Pharmaceuticals sees their FY generics revenue to be in the range of $650-675m as their search for a new CEO remains on track.
Rolls-Royce says FY22 guidance remains unchanged as market volatility hasn't impacted cash flows. They have received $1.8bn in contract renewals amid "robust demand" but state that defence revenue growth in 2022 is expected to be "modest" due to non-repeats.
Sainsbury's kept its financial guidance for the year despite reporting an 8% fall in H1 profit. They still expect a 2022-23 underlying pretax profit of between 630-690m, down from the £730m made in 2021-22. Prior to the update analysts were on average forecasting £637m.
Smith & Nephew report revenue for Q3 of $1.25bn, down from $1.27bn in 2021. They state that FY underlying revenue growth is expected in the range of 4-5%. They also repeat their unchanged trading profit margin guidance of around 18%.
