Markets Overview:

The UK 100 is called to open +55 points this morning at 7261.  The UK 100 looks set to rebound this morning, as it ignores the dramatic fall on Wall Street from last night.  This comes despite UK wage growth continued to grow by less than inflation in the three months to April, while the unemployment rate ticked up to 3.8%.   Regular pay, excluding bonuses, grew 4.2%, the Office for National Statistics said, which was the same as a month earlier and higher than the 4% expected.  Real wages fell by 2.2% on the year, if you adjust for inflation that is running at around 9%.  On Wall Street, the Nasdaq plummeted almost 531 points or 4.5% to 10,809.23, getting on for 32% lower since the start of the year to its lowest level since October 2020. The S&P fell 3.9% and the Dow Jones 2.8%, both at their lowest since January last year.  Asian markets followed US Markets this morning, The Shanghai Composite in China declined 0.49% while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index fell 0.14%.  Japan's Nikkei 225 slumped 1.43% and South Korea’s Kospi was trading 0.57% lower.
