Markets Overview:

 

The UK 100 is called to open -15 points this morning at 7593.  The UK 100 looks set to retreat on Tuesday after Prime Minister Boris Johnson scraped through a no-confidence vote overnight. Asian markets are mostly in the red this morning, led by the ASX after the Reserve Bank of Australia raised its headline interest rate by half a percentage point, a bigger move than expected, following a quarter point move a month ago.  Wall Street’s main indices finished slightly higher overnight, having been significantly higher earlier in the session, the Nasdaq climbed 0.4%, the S&P 500 0.3% and the Dow Jones was only just above flat.

Company News:

Biffa announced today that it has received a series of unsolicited and indicative proposals from affiliates of Energy Capital Partners on behalf of funds and other investment vehicles managed and/or advised by ECP and its affiliates to acquire the entire issued, and to be issued, share capital of the Company.

 

 

National Express Group delivered results this morning, they said Revenue continues to track close to 2019 (pre-pandemic) levels, progressing strongly to anticipated 2022 full year revenue of around £2.7bn.  They also said it was the Group's intention continues to be to reinstate a dividend in respect of the full year 2022 results.

 

 

Ted Baker informed by the preferred counterparty for a proposed takeover, last night that it did not intend to proceed with an offer for the Company.  The counterparty indicated that its reason for not proceeding was not linked to its due diligence review of the Company.
