Markets Overview:

 

The UK 100 is called to open +15 points at 7493.   Calls for another positive open today come despite growing inflation data for the UK this morning, rising from 5.5% in January to 6.2% in February according to the office for National Statistics, focus this morning will be on Rishi Sunak’s budget.  On Wall Street yesterday, The Nasdaq led gains for US markets, pushing up to one-month highs, and above the levels seen prior to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.  The Dow Jones gained 254 points or 0.74% to finish Wednesday’s session at 34,807, whilst the S&P added 1.13% to close at 4,511.  In Asia this morning, Japan’s Nikkei rallied 3% to 28,040 and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng got a 1.7% boost to 22,260. The Shanghai Composite nudged 0.32% higher to 3,269.

Company News:

Dignity swings to a pretax profit in 2021 of £32m, up YoY from a loss of £19.6m. They do not expect to pay a dividend until they are on more sustainable financial footing.

 

 

Halma tips their FY adjusted pretax profit in line with market range of £300.7-313.4m. They expect a sequential revenue rise in H2 and "substantial" hike for FY. The have also made three more acquisitions in H2, taking YTD to thirteen, worth £166m in total.

 

 

Saga reports that their FY pretax loss narrows to £23.5m from £61.2m as their FY revenue climbed 12% to £377.2m. They state FY earnings were boosted by the resumption of their travel arm in H2. There has been no earnings guidance issued for the new financial year due to virus uncertainty.
