Markets Overview:

 

 

The UK 100 is called to open +30 points today at 7366. A higher open is expected once more this morning for the UK 100 as investors continue to take positivity and solace from reports that a third dose of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine would give decent protection against the omicron variant.  On Wall Street yesterday the Dow Jones ended 0.10% or 35 points higher at 35,754.75, the S&P 500 rose 0.31% to 4701.21 and the Nasdaq jumped 0.64% to 15,786.99.  Asian markets were mixed on Thursday, China’s Shanghai Composite surged 0.97% and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index jumped 0.99%,  The Nikkei in Japan slipped 0.47% while South Korea’s Kospi gained 0.93%.

Balfour Beatty expects FY underlying pretax profit from operations to be around £172m.
ConvaTec mutually agrees with CFO Frank Schulkes that he will step down in March 2022.
 
DS Smith reports a H1 pretax profit of £177m (2020: £120m).
Galliford try wins £55m contract to build Galashiels Community Campus.
Moonpig reported an 8.5% drop in H1 revenue after the reopening of high street rivals that were forced to close in the same period a year ago. They expect annual revenue for the FY to be at the upper end of its previous guidance range of between £270-285m.
 
Rolls Royce expects their free cash outflow in fiscal year 2021 to be better than its previous guidance of £2bn thanks to cost cuts and the broader market recovery. They expect to remove more than 8,500 roles by the end of this year, with the pace of restructuring running ahead of its plan.
 
Watches of Switzerland reports a H1 pretax profit of £64.7m (2020: £36.2m).
