Markets Overview:

The UK 100 is called to open +22 points today at 7244.  A positive open is expected today, this follows the UK blue chip index hitting a fresh 18 month high during yesterdays session.  On Wall Street we saw even larger gains, with the tech-heavy Nasdaq rising 0.9% to close at 15,226.7, while the S&P and Dow Jones added 0.5% and 0.2% respectively.  It was a more mixed picture for Asia this morning, China’s Shanghai Composite slipped 0.29% while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index fell by 0.41%. In Japan however, the Nikkei jumped 1.94%.

Company News:

Bunzl reported higher Q3 revenue buoyed by acquisitions and higher number of trading days compared to last year, but the business supplies distributor flagged that the trend would unwind in the last quarter. Underlying revenues in Q3 rose 2.5% with a fall in sales of some COVID-19 products hurting the company.
Hochschild says they are on track to deliver their 2021 overall production target.
Petrofac plans to tap shareholders in a £180m fundraising.
Polymetal update that their production is in line with budget and that they are on track to meet FY guidance.
Reckitt Benckiser beat analysts' estimates for Q3 sales benefiting from increased sales of cold and flu remedies and price hikes promoting them to raise their FY forecasts.
Whitbread reported a much smaller HY loss as its hotels in the UK bounced back faster than expected from the COVID-19 pandemic.
