Markets Overview:

The UK 100 is called to open +30 points today at 7236.  Another positive open is expected today for the UK's bluechip index, which would in turn demonstrate 18 month highs for the index.  This follows bumper sessions both in Asia this morning and Stateside yesterday.  Earlier today China’s Shanghai Composite gained 0.46% while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index surged 1.07%.  In Japan, the Nikkei jumped 1.56%.  On Wall Street, The Dow Jones surged 535 points higher to close at 34,913 yesterday while the S&P 500 posted its best one-day gain since March, adding 75 points to 4,438.

Company News:

Hargreaves Lansdown reported £1.3bn of net new business in the quarter ended September, after more investors poured money into its cash management services as the economy recovers. The investment platform added 23,000 net new clients over the period, while assets under administration rose 2% to £138bn as net new business rose 63%.
 
Jupiter Fund Management saw outflows of £569m in the three months ended September 2021 as investors redeemed mutual funds and shunned British and European equity products. Outflows were partially offset by £300m of inflows into its fixed income strategies. Assets under management at end of September were £60.7bn and increase of 0.4bn from June 30th 2021 due to positive market movements.
 
Land Securities says rent collection rates have continued to improve.
 
Pearson says higher education revenue was hurt by 9% decline in US higher education courseware as they are on track for FY21 adjusted operating profit in line with market expectations.
Rio Tinto expects Q3 Pilbara shipments to be 320-325m tonnes, previously low end of 325-340m. Q3 Bauxite, aluminium and copper production were all down 3%.
