Markets Overview:

The UK 100 is called to open -35 points today at 7115.  A weaker open is expected this morning on the UK blue chip index ahead of the commencement of the Jackson Hole Symposium.  The picture was significantly brighter stateside yesterday saw another day of record closes on Wall Street, the Dow Jones rose by 39 points. The S&P gained 0.22% to close at a fresh record, led by stocks that benefit from the economic reopening like airlines, cruise lines and financials. The Nasdaq rose 0.15%, also notching up a record close.  In Asia overnight, sentiment was more subdued, Japan’s Nikkei was down very slightly at 27,721 whilst Hong Kong’s Hang Seng was off 1.4% at 25,330. The Shanghai Composite dipped 0.6% to 3,518.

British Land delivers further strategic progress with £350m of capital activity.
CRH reports a 15% increase in revenue for H1 2021 as pretax profit increases sharply to $1.05bn (2020: $518m) as they increase their interim dividend by 4.5% to 23 US cents per share.
Greggs has become the latest fast-food business to be hit by supply chain interruptions that are impacting businesses across the retail and hospitality sector in Britain.
Hays have forecast a "dramatic" faster pace of recovery in the jobs market as the coronavirus restrictions ease, while it reported a lower annual operating profit due to a hit from the pandemic. Operating profit came in at £95.1m (2020: £135m).
Polymetal net profit rises on higher gold and silver prices as H1 net earnings rose to $419m (2020: $376m).
Watches of Switzerland announce that Bill Floydd (Rank Group CFO) will become their new CFO.
