Markets Overview:

The UK 100 is called to open -6 points today at 7119.   Calls for a modestly lower open today come as investors focus may be stating to turn to the Jackson Hole Symposium, which begins tomorrow, giving up yesterdays gains.  Stocks in Asia were mixed overnight, the Shanghai Composite in China gained 0.44% while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index dipped 0.08%  In Japan, the Nikkei was flat.  Stateside yesterday it was a day of record highs once more, the S&P advanced 0.15% for its fourth-straight positive session, hitting both a record intraday and closing high. It’s the benchmark index’s 62nd record intraday high this year. The Nasdaq added 0.52%, also hitting intraday and closing records.  Meanwhile the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.09%.

Grafton report record H1 profit of £142.4m after major contributions from Woodie's DIY, home and garden business in Ireland. They have issued an interim dividend of 8.5p as the overall outlook is positive with supportive sector and positive macro trends.
Morrisons WM Supermarkets: CD&R said that the pension rights of the Morrisons management team and employees will be "fully safeguarded" once its takeover offer for the British supermarket chain becomes effective.
