Markets Overview:

The UK 100 is called to open up 7 points today at 7202. We saw record levels once again yesterday as the Dow and S&P 500 closed at record highs. Asia however, ignored this and was again down. Chip manufacturers were the biggest decliners in China, with it also being dragged down by its local semiconductor sub-index, which fell 3.4%. Rising regulatory and geopolitical risks are weighing on medium term growth prospects in China. The  surging Delta variant of the coronavirus in several countries in the region is not helping matters either. Elsewhere, a Reuters poll said that nearly two thirds of economists said that the Fed is likely to announce a taper of its asset purchases at its September meeting. Oil fell for a second consecutive day as the International Energy Agency warned that demand growth for crude and its products had slowed sharply.
