Markets Overview:

The UK 100 is called to open +3 points today at 7128.  A modestly higher open is expected this morning following yesterday news late in the session that most lockdown restrictions will be lifted on the 19th July. In focus today investors will likely look Stateside to the start of earnings season and inflation data later. Stateside yesterday saw all three major indices finishing at record highs. Positive sentiment continued into Asia this morning as China’s exports surged 32.2% in June compared with a year earlier. That was much higher than a forecast by analysts in a Reuters poll for a 23.1% rise in exports for June. The Shanghai Composite in China gained 0.30% while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index surged 1.70% whilst in Japan, the Nikkei 225 rose 0.56%.

British Land update that they have received 91% of the £116m in rent due in March 2021 quarter and they have also received 85% of the £87m rent due in June 2021 quarter. They have agreed to buy Thurrock shopping park off the M25 for £82m.
 
Howden Joinery expects their pretax profit to be around £300m in 2021.
 
Kier Group expects their FY 2021 adjusted operating profit margin to be around 3%, after benefiting from cost cuts. They expect their FY results to be moderately ahead of board expectations.
