Markets Overview:

The UK 100 is called to open +9 points today at 7080. The UK bluechip index is called to open up around 7 points after ending Tuesday’s session 15 points higher at 7,087.  This follows a strong session on Wall Street on Tuesday, strong gains in tech heavyweights like Apple and Microsoft led the S&P and the Nasdaq to close 0.1% and 0.2% higher respectively. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose less than 0.1 per cent. Asian markets were mostly firmer this morning, The Shanghai Composite is traded 0.2% higher, while Japan’s Nikkei traded modestly higher.

Dixons Carphone reported a 34% rise in annual profit, with strong online performance more than offsetting the forced closure of its stores during COVID-19 lockdowns. They made an adjusted pretax profit of £156m, which was better than the £151m expected.
Indivior to raise their FY 2021 guidance after better-than-expected H1 performance.
Serco have forecast more than a 50% jump in H1 profit, bolstered mainly by its COV ID-19 services for the UK government, although it warned that revenue from those services would drop in H2. They expect underlying trading profit to come in between £120-125m for the first six months of the year.
 
Stagecoach have said they expect to continue to generate positive operating profit, helped by ongoing government support, although the speed of recovery from the pandemic was hard to predict. Their total operating profit dropped almost 60% to £48.1m.
