Markets Overview:

 

UK 100 is called to open flat this morning at 7043.  A flat start is expected this morning as today marks the next stage of Boris Johnson's road map for lifting lock down. From today pubs and restaurants reopen for indoor trading for the first time in six months.  It was a mixed session in Asia overnight The Hang Seng index in Hong Kong gained 0.39% while in China, the Shanghai Composite rose by 1.02%. In Japan, the Nikkei dropped 1.17% and South Korea’s Kospi fell 0.64%. This was after retail sales data in China rose by 17.7% year-on-year in April, falling short of expectations in a Reuters poll for a 24.9% increase.

Diploma sees FY results ahead of expectations after H1 profit rises. Pretax profit rose 2% to £42.5m, EPS rose 29% to 38.4p and they declared a dividend of 12.5p per share. They expect FY results to be significantly ahead of their previous expectations.

 

Petropavlovsk 2020 profit turned to a loss of $48.9m as EBITDA increased 32% to $350.7m driven by an increase in revenues which were partly offset by higher costs. Total cash costs increased 38%, capital expenditure +13% and cash from operations +64%. Their 2021 production remains on track to meet FY guidance of 430-470 koz.

 

Ryanair swings to a FY21 loss of 1.11bn euros from 670.3m euros profit YoY as FY21 traffic fell 81% to 27.5m passengers due to COVID-19 restrictions. They expect a challenging FY22 and they expect Q1 traffic to be between 5-6m passengers.

 

Vistry expects their FY21 adjusted profit before tax to be around £325m as they report a "very positive" start to the year with strong demand across the business.
