Markets Overview:

UK 100 is called to open +23 points this morning at 7152.  Calls for a positive open come as Boris Johnson looks set to follow his strong election performance with further reopenings of the economy after Covid. Ministers are today expected to confirm the reopening of pubs, restaurants, hotels and cinemas from May 17, boosting confidence in those sectors and in markets more generally. Markets in Asia overnight were mixed but cues seem to have been taken from a strong showing in Japan, the Nikkei 225 rose 0.47%.  The Hang Seng index in Hong Kong dipped 0.45% while the Shanghai Composite in China slipped 0.37%.
