Markets Overview:

UK 100 is called to open +15 points this morning at 6875. Modest gains are expected this morning. This comes after yesterday's day if heavy selling saw the UK blue-chip index give back 2% of recent gains. Asian shares and U.S. stock futures fell on Wednesday as concern about a resurgence of coronavirus cases in some countries cast doubt on the strength of global growth and demand for crude oil. Optimism about rising vaccination rates in the United States, Britain, and Europe is shifting to concern that record coronavirus infections in India and the reinforcement of travel restrictions will act as a brake on the global economy. Stateside saw markets follow suit, the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed the session 0.75% lower at 33,821, the S&P dropped by slightly less, giving back 0.68% to trade at 4,134 and the biggest faller was the tech heavy Nasdaq, which dropped by 0.92% to trade at 13,786. in Asia this morning it was a similar story, with Japan’s Nikkei down 1.99% while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng dropped 1.84%.
