Markets Overview:

 

UK 100 is called to open -42 points this morning at 6684.  A lower open is expected today, a year on from the first UK national lockdown, as investors look to mainland Europe and the slowing down of the vaccination programme and concerns for what this may mean for travel plans for this year and the impact this could have on travel stocks.  Stocks in Asia this morning were lower, The Hang Seng in Hong Kong slipped 1.53% while the Shanghai Composite in China dipped 1.26%.  In Japan, the Nikkei 225 fell 0.61% and South Korea’s Kospi declined 0.97%.  This bucks the trend set yesterday stateside as U.S. stocks jumped on Monday led higher by technology shares as investors flocked back into the markets as bond yields rates dropped.  The tech-heavy Nasdaq added 1.2% to close the session at 13,377.54. The S&P added 0.7% to end the session at 3,940.59, to break a two-day losing streak. The Dow Jones completed the green sweep by gaining 103.23 points, or 0.3%, to end at 32,731.20.
