Markets Overview:

 

UK 100 is called to open +54 points this morning at 6668.  Calls for a strong open this morning come as Rishi Sunak reportedly is set to spend another £20 billion on Covid support in his Budget.  In Asia this overnight, Japan’s Nikkei closed up around 0.4% while China’s CSI 300 and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng gained 1.4% and nearly 2% respectively after bouncing back from the previous session’s falls.  It was a more mixed picture Stateside yesterday, The Dow Jones gave back 143 points from Mondays rally, pressured by a 2.6% drop in Intel, While the S&P 500 registered a loss of about 0.8%.  The Nasdaq  was the biggest underperformer, dipping about 1.7% as Facebook, Microsoft, Amazon, Apple, Netflix and Google-parent Alphabet closed lower.

Biffa says their FY underlying EBIT to be well ahead of previous £42-44m expectations as impact of third lockdown on earnings is less severe than expected.

 

DS Smith sees FY results in line with expectations.

 

Hiscox expects to pay $475m in covid-related claims net of reinsurance.

 

Persimmon reported a slump in 2020 profit, but they are targeting a full return to pre-pandemic new home completion levels next year. Their pretax profit came in at £783.8m, compared with average analysts' forecasts of £857.7m profit expected.

 

Wizz Air says that their EVP & Group COO Pen have sold 18,499 shares at £54.70 each.
