UK 100 is called to open -12 points this morning at 6577. Calls for a softer open come on the back of yesterdays global rally, the weakening has been driven by China’s banking regulator voicing concerns over bubbles in foreign markets just after New York posted its strongest daily gains in nearly nine months. On Wall Street we saw the Dow Jones rallied 1.95% to 31,535.5, while the broader S&P climbed 2.4% and the Nasdaq leapt 3%. Asian markets were mixed this morning.
Ashtead expects to report FY results ahead of previous expectations.
Flutter Entertainment reports that their 2020 pretax profit has fallen to £1m (2019: £136m).
Fresnillo reported a sharp jump in FY pretax profit boosted by strong gold and silver prices, but the company remains cautious for 2021 due to the continued impact of the pandemic in Mexico. Profit before tax jumped to $551.3m for FY 2020 (2019: $178.8m) beating analyst estimates of $472.2m.
Ryanair have stated that the coronavirus pandemic has continued to hurt traffic as it operated at 6% of its normal February schedule with a 78% load factor.
Taylor Wimpey have said that the 2021 selling season has started well and they have resumed dividend payment as promised. Their 2020 pretax profit came in at £264.4m, slightly below the £267m average analyst estimates. They declared a final dividend of 4.14p per share.
Travis Perkins has recommenced the process to demerge its Wickes home improvement business.
Weir Group state that their 2020 pretax profit has fallen to £184.3m (2019: £189.4m).
Wizz Air report that their February passenger numbers were down 87% to 382,928 (from 3m in Feb 2020).
