UK 100 is called to open +20 points this morning at 6678 (Also paid a 13.42 point dividend). Calls for a positive open this morning come on the back of a very welcome bumper session in the US for traders, this was thanks in main to US officials talking down the prospect of higher interest rates. All major indices delivered a significant bounce from Tuesdays fall, The Dow Jones added 424 points or 1.35% to close at 31,961 whilst the S&P 500 climbed 1.14% to 3,925 at the end of the session. Tthe Nasdaq added a slightly more modest but still strong 0.99% rise to 13,597 and the small-cap focussed Russell 2000 index made the biggest gain, rising 2.38% to 2,284 by the close. The positive sentiment continued in Asia this morning, Japan’s Nikkei gained 1.6% to 30,168 and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng moved 1.76% higher to 30,241. The Shanghai Composite added 0.6% to 3,585.
Anglo American posted a slight fall in profits for 2020 but boosted dividends after strong commodity prices helped the diversified miner recover from coronavirus disruptions suffered in its first half. EBITDA fell 2% to $9.8bn, beating consensus of $9.4bn. They declared a final dividend of 72 cents per share, in line with its 40% payout policy and up 53% from a year earlier.
Aston Martin went further into the red with a £466m pre-tax loss, as sales tumbled in 2020 during a turbulent year. They maintained an outlook of around 6,000 sales to dealers in 2021.
BAE Systems posted a 2% rise in annual EPS, beating forecasts and guided to further growth in 2021.
Centrica reported a FY operating loss from continuing operations of £362m (£783 loss a year ago).
Evraz's 2020 net profit jumps to $858m (2019: $365m).
Hikma Pharmaceuticals sees higher 2021 sales and posted an increase in FY profit to $566m ($508m last year).
KAZ Minerals reports FY operating profit of $1.01bn.
Standard Chartered posted a 57% fall in annual profit missing analyst estimates on higher credit impairments due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
St James's Place posted a 75% surge in annual profit, helped by market makers' recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic fallout and aims for a target of more than £200bn in funds under management by the end of 2025.
