Markets Overview:

 

UK 100 called to open flat this morning at 6500.   Traders will today be looking towards Non Farm Payroll data out later today, mores o than usual, as January payroll numbers are a tough call given the current global situation.  This comes on the back of a bumper session in the States yesterday on hopes that president Biden’s stimulus package would pass through the US Senate relatively little changed.  The Dow Jones jumped 332 points to 31,056 while the S&P 500 rallied 42 points to 3,872.  The positive sentiment continued into Asia overnight with Japan’s Nikkei 421 points to the good at 28,763 and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index 266 points firmer at 29,380.

AstraZeneca says Kestrel phase 3 trial on Imfinzi did not meet primary endpoint as it did not improve overall survival in head, neck cancer patients.

 

Beazley reported a 2020 pretax loss of $50.4m, swinging from a profit of $267.7m in 2019. They declared a 0p 2020 dividend v 12.3p in 2019.

 

French Connection says that Spotlight brands and Go global retail have both made takeover tilts for the company.

 

Warehouse REIT are to raise up to £45.9m via a 37.9m share placing at 121p per share.
