Markets Overview:

 

UK 100 called to open -35 points this morning at 6767.   Calls for a weaker open come despite a US$1.9tn fiscal support package being agreed in the US, markets seem unconfident at the chances of Biden getting the measures passed into law.  US markets headed lower yesterday on Wall Street, albeit  prior to Biden's announcement, with the Dow Jones down 69 points at 30,992 and the S&P closing 14 points lower at 3,796.  In Asian markets overnight, Japan’s Nikkei 225 closed 137 points lower at 28,562 and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng sold off by 75 points to close at 28,422.

 

Company News:

Ashmore report that their Assets Under Management increased by $7.5bn over the quarter.

 

Aveva Group remain confident in their FY outlook after a strong quarter of contract renewals in the last three months of 2020.

 

Babcock International Group says trading in Q3 saw continuation of trends in H1. They reported underlying revenue in the nine months year to date of £3,399m (2020: £3,574m), with group's order book standing at £16.8bn (2020: £17.6bn). Underlying profit for 9m ytd was £202m (2020: £320m).

 

Entain are in advanced talks to appoint Jette Nygaard-Anderson as its new CEO. Shay Segev left the role on Monday after Entain rejected an $11bn approach for the company from MGM Resorts International.

 

Meggitt says that their FY group underlying operating profit is to be in the middle of £180-200m range. They also stated that trading across their end markets in the final quarter was broadly in line with trends experienced in October.

 

Petrofac says that their former senior executive David Lufkin has pleaded guilty at Westminster Magistrates' Court to three further bribery offences in relation to oil deals.
