UK 100 called to open +10 points this morning at 6807. Calls for a positive open come in spite of growing investors concerns about rising coronavirus cases and the effects of restrictions, and also the delivery of Britain's worst retail sales figures in 25 years. Stateside yesterday saw Wall Street join European markets in selling off during session, with the Dow Jones slipping 89 points or 0.3% to 31,008.69, down for the second trading day in succession. The S&P fell 0.7% and the tech-heavy Nasdaq fell the furthest by 1.25%, with all the FAANG stocks in the red. Stocks in Asia-Pacific were mixed today, in China, the Shanghai composite surged 1.59% and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index advanced 0.85%.
Games Workshop Group reports sales growth +26% with online channels +87%, being driven by the phasing of government lockdown rules. They reported an operating profit (pre-royalties receivable) of £83m.
Kingfisher reported strong trade across its markets in Q4 with underlying sales up 16.9%. Based on trading to date, it said it was comfortable with the top end estimates for 2020-21 adjusted profit before tax of £667-742m.
Marks & Spencer has purchased the Jaeger brand from its administrators as part of a strategy to bolster its clothing division with new names.
THG Group have forecast 2021 revenue to be between 30-35% higher than 2020, boosted by its Dermstore.com acquisition and a surge in online demand for its beauty products during the pandemic. Q4 revenue jumped 51% to £558.7m, ahead of its expectations.
Vistry Group says that FY20 Profit before Tax is expected to be at the top end of range at about £140m.
