UK 100 called to open +90 points this morning at 6530. Calls for a positive open today to start the new year come in-spite of concerns over another national lockdown. In Asia on Monday, the mood was one of optimism with the main markets there buoyed by coronavirus vaccine hopes. The Nikkei 225 hit a 30-year high, while Korea's Kospi climbed 2%. China, by contrast, delivered a relatively restrained performance with a 0.8% gain.
AstraZeneca announce that around two million doses of their vaccine with Oxford University are set to be supplied every week by the middle of January in the UK.
Ferguson are to sell Wolseley for £308m.
MGM Resorts International are seeking to buy British gaming company Entain in the latest move by the casino operator to double down on the online-gambling business.
