UK 100 called to open +30 points this morning at 6326. Calls for a positive open come as investors are set to continue positive sentiment shown over the past two days in the markets, overnight in Asia it was a positive session, with Japan’s Nikkei 225 rising 1.67% while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng was up 0.2% on more optimism for a coronavirus vaccine. It was a mixed session the US yesterday however The Dow Jones closed 0.9% higher at 29,420 while the S&P 500 fell 0.14% to 3,545 and the Nasdaq sank 1.37% to 11,553, as traders in New York began to rotate away from tech firms and towards value stocks again.
BAE Systems have slightly raised their profit forecast saying demand for its capabilities remained high and orders for military kit this year had exceeded expectations.
Great Portland Estates reported a 18% plunge in the valuation of its retail portfolio due to the coronavirus restrictions, with office take-up in central London dropping to a record low. Its net rental income for H1 fell to £30.6m from £39.5m a year earlier.
J D Wetherspoon posted lower sales for Q1 of its new financial year, hit by coronavirus restrictions including changes in the tier categories, a 10pm curfew and a requirement to order all food and drink at the table. Sales fell 27.6% for the 15 weeks ended Nov 8th.
Royal Dutch Shell will halve its crude processing capacity and cut jobs at its Pulau Bukom oil refinery in Singapore as part of an overhaul to reduce its carbon emissions.
Tullow Oil have completed the $575m sale of its Uganda assets to Total. Tullow still has a net debt of $2.4bn and available liquidity of $1bn.
