Markets Overview:

 

UK 100 called to open -47 points this morning at 5805.  Calls for a negative open come as trading in Asia overnight saw a continuation of the fall we saw yesterday in the US, Japan’s Nikkei 225 closed down 295 points at 23,170 and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index down 456 points at 24,551. The Dow Jones closed the day 807.77 points lower, or 2.8%, at 28,292.73. The S&P saw an even bigger fall, giving up 3.5% to 3,455.06. While the Nasdaq dropped 5% to 11,458.10.  The sizeable fall was driven by a sharp fall in tech stocks, Apple slid 8% while Facebook, Amazon, Alphabet, Netflix and Microsoft also fell sharply.  The converse to this however were shares of companies that would benefit from the economy reopening rose. Cruise operator Carnival rose 5.2% and Macy’s popped 8%. United Airlines advanced 1.4%.

WPP announces today that Wunderman Thompson has acquired Velvet Consulting, a leading French customer experience consultancy.

Topps Tiles Plc, the UK's leading tile specialist, is pleased to announce the appointment of Stephen Hopson as Chief Financial Officer with effect from 2 November 2020.

Berkeley Group said trading for the first four months of the year were resilient and reiterated plans to return £280m to shareholders. The vaalue of its underlyinf sales reservations for period up to Aug. 31st fell about 20%

The UK's CMA are launching enforcement action involving Barratt Developments, Persimmon, Countryside Proprties and Taylor WImpey. They believe the housing developers may have broken consumer protection law in relation to leasehold homes.
