Markets Overview:

 

UK 100 called to open +30 points this morning at 6280.  A positive open is expected across all major European indices as EU leaders meeting to discuss the €750bn rescue fund.  This comes on the back of the Dow snapping a 4 day winning streak by falling more than 100 points during Thursday session.  Tech stocks continued to suffer, both Microsoft and Apple dropped by more than 1% whilst Netflix is down more than 3% week to date.  The weekly jobless claims number also disappointed coming in slightly worse than expected, 1.3m new claims vs the city's expectation of 1.25m new unemployment claims.  The Dow Jones closed 135.39 points lower, or 0.5%, to 26,734.71. The S&P 500 slid 0.3% to 3,215.57 and the Nasdaq pulled back 0.7% to close at 10,473.83.  Brent crude trades at $43.25 a barrel, down 12 cents, whilst gold changes hands for $1,797.80 an ounce, down $2.50.

 

Company News:

 

DCC says retail and oil performed well in Q1 2020 as trading was resilient and ahead of group's expectations at time of last update. Kevin Lucey has been appointed new CFO.

 

Homeserve says it continues to expect to deliver a solid performance in FY21 as consumer demand for home improvements has recovered strongy across all businesses.

 

IAG British Airways have announced that they will retire its entire jumbo jet fleet with immiediate effect due to the downturn in the travel industry caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

 

Rio tinto reported a +1.5% rise in iron ore shipments for Q2 2020.
