Markets Overview:

 

UK 100 called to open +30 points this morning at 6189.   This comes as overnight the latest Chinese economic stats (June CPI) arrived precisely on the market’s forecasts and expectations helped investor sentiments on the positive side this saw Japan’s Nikkei gain 124 points or 0.55% to 22,562, while in Hong Kong’s Hang Seng similarly rose by 108 points or 0.4% to 26,237 and the Shanghai Composite moved 1.28% higher to 3,447.  In the US Wednesday saw Wall Street benchmarks market positive sessions. The Dow Jones climbed 0.68% to end at 26,067, whilst the S&P 500 was 0.78% higher at 3,169.  Focus today will later today focus on German (trade) and US (weekly jobs) data.

 

Company News:

 

Persimmon reports H1 revenue drops to £1.19bn (2019: £1.75bn) as lockdown delays deliveries. HY forward order book of new homes sales at £1.86bn (2019: £1.62bn). Selling prices have remained firm and they are encouraged by the level of customer reservations in the period since their sales offices re-opened in May.

 

Premier Oil has announced that their stable platform agreement has been approved, which will mean that the company's financial covenants have been waived through to 30th September 2020.

 

Rolls Royce posts a cash outflow of £3bn in H1 2020, as the hours flown by its engines halved due to the COVID-19 pandemic. They expect to see an improvemnet in H2 2020, resulting in free cash outflow for FY of about £4bn. Its restructuring, which will see 9,000 jobs cut, would support recovery in free cashflow to at at least £750m in 2022.

 

Rio Tinto has said it will close its aluminium smelter operation in New Zealand due to high costs and a challenging market.
