Markets Overview:

UK 100 called to open -70 points this morning at 6226.  Calls for a negative open to the week come as fresh concerns over a second peak in coronavirus materialised over the weekend, with the R number in Germany spiking to 2.88, well above the required level of sub 1 to contain the virus.  In the US however stock futures erased losses and Asian stocks held flat on Monday as they try to shake off worries of rising coronavirus cases in the US.  During Asian trading the Nikkei edged 0.3% higher, whilst in Hong Kong’s the Hang Seng dipped 0.32% by the afternoon as shares of Chinese tech giant Alibaba dropped almost 2%. Mainland Chinese stocks, on the other hand, edged higher.

Company News:

The company has not recognized any COVID-19 related claims upside in this year’s results or financial statements. Motor and home policies are 1% higher (1 Feb-21 Jun).

JD Sports confirms they have considered a number of strategic options for their Go Outdoors brand. Go’s directors have lodged this notice in court to protect it from any potential legal action from creditors. Administrators have not been appointed yet.

Cineworld has secured a $250m credit facility from a group of private institutional investors to help reopen its cinemas, as lockdowns ease across the world. The UK and US reopen on the 10th July. This facility will help it strengthen its balance sheet.
