Markets Overview:

 

UK 100 called to open +10 points this morning at 6345.  Calls for a positive open come on the back of a mixed session on Wall Street overnight, with the Dow closing 1.09% lower at 27,272 while the S&P 500 fell 0.78% to 3,207. The tech-heavy Nasdaq, however, seemed to brush off the negativity, rising 0.29% to a fresh record of 9,953.  Traders focus today will be on the outcome of the Federal Reserve’s meeting later.  Asian markets managed to move into positive territory early on Wednesday, with the Japanese Nikkei 225 rising 0.12% while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng rose 0.27%.

 

Company News:

 

AstraZeneca has received $23.7m in funding from the U.S. government to advance the development of antibody-based COVID-19 treatments.

 

GlaxoSmithKline has started a trial in the U.S. to test an experimental rheumatoid arthiritis drug on patients suffering with pneumonia caused by COVID-19.

 

Segro have stated they will raise around £650m through a private share placement to fund its expansion across the UK and Europe.

 

Shaftesbury says HY underlying net property income before COVID-19 related provisions was up 2.1%.

 

The Restaurant Group announces a proposal to reduce the size of its leisure estate and rental cost base by the implementation of a Company Voluntary Arrangement (CVA).
