UK 100 called to open flat points at 5854. Overnight trading in Asia, saw stocks were mixed and U.S. futures pushed higher Thursday as investors digested a surprise rise in China’s exports amid mixed global economic data. China’s exports unexpectedly rose in April aided by stronger shipments to South East Asia, though with the coronavirus pandemic damaging global demand that increase is likely to be temporary. Imports fell. Exports rose 3.5% in dollar terms in April from a year earlier, while imports dropped 14.2%, the customs administration said Thursday. The U.K. is set to ease parts of its nationwide lockdown Monday, with companies warning that continuing social distancing will hurt any economic recovery. Oil was anchored near $24 a barrel after halting a five-day rally as investors weigh small signs of recovering demand against a huge glut that’s testing global storage capacity limits. Futures edged higher in New York after losing 2.3% on Wednesday. American gasoline consumption on a four-week basis rebounded at its strongest rate on record last week.
AA announces that FY20 profit before tax has more than doubled to £107m and that they currently expect performance this year to be slightly below that of last years results.
BT has suspended its dividend until 2021/22 and pulled its financial outlook in response to the COVID-19 pandemic as they announce 2019/20 results are in line with expectations.
IAG announces that Luis Gallego will suceed Willie Walsh as group CEO on 24th September 2020.
IHG holiday Inn-owner said it expects revenue per available room to plunge 80% in April compared with last year and that the coronavirus crisis was the biggest challenge the hotel industry has ever faced.
Rolls Royce says it can deliver up to £1bn of savings this year by working with their own supply-chain to reduce direct procurement as well as placing 4,000 UK employees on furlough. Currently expect to deliver around 250 Widebody engines in 2020, down from previous guidance of 450.
Superdry sales have plunged 37% in Q1 2020, reflecting the closure of its stores across the world due to coronavirus outbreak. The group has continued to trade online, offsetting some of its lost store sales.
