Markets Overview:

UK 100 called to open +25 points 7434; U.S. equity futures rose with China’s stocks and the yuan, taking encouragement from pledges to support the nation’s economy. Japanese equities declined after a deep contraction in GDP. China’s CSI 300 Index recouped all of its losses since trading resumed after the Lunar New Year break, with the central bank lowering one of its interest rates.  The Nikkei slipped 164 points to trade at 23,523.  It was a very different story in Hong Kong where we saw the Hang Seng adding 145 points to close at 27,961 & as previously mentioned a massive step up in China as the CSI 300 Index closed 2.25% higher to trade at 4,077.  It was a quiet close last week in the US with all three major indices showing modest movements, the Dow Jones closed down 25 points at 29,398, the S&P 500 closed up 6 points at 3,380 & the Nasdaq closed up 19 points at 9,731.  Oil prices continued to show momentum, trading close to $58 per barrel now, whilst Gold also caught a bid to trade at $1582 overnight.
